Current tensions have not affected Thailand-Korea tourism

BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports says that ongoing tensions in the Korean Peninsular have had no impacts on planned tours to Thailand by South Koreans and vice versa. Tourism and Sports Ministry Spokesman Vachira Kannikar acknowledged on Monday that his ministry has closely monitored updates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other reliable sources. Vachira confirmed that there have been no signs of any cancellation or postponement of planned tours to Thailand by South Korean tourists and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not issued any travel advisory or ban on Thai nationals' travels to the Korea Peninsular so far. The spokesman suggested, however, that those who plan to visit the Korea Peninsular should, however, monitor the updated situation from reliable sources, namely Thai and Korean government agencies. Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) President Sisdivachr Cheewarattanaporn, meanwhile, insisted that there has been no cancellation or postponement made by both Thai and South Korean tour companies. According to the ATTA president, there have been a number of planned Korean tours to Thailand annually, ranked the third after China and Japan, while Japan, China and South Korea have been three most popular overseas tourist destinations for Thais respectively, particularly during the yearly Songkran or traditional Thai New Year long holiday period in mid-April.
