Cycling: Alexander Kristoff Wins 2nd Stage of Tour of Qatar 2016

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - Norwegian Alexander Kristoff beat Mark Cavendish to win the stage two of the Tour of Qatar 2016 on Tuesday. Roy Jans (Wanty Groupe Gobert) was third with Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) fourth after a late crash, 400 meters from the finish, scattered the peloton and left numerous riders on the ground. As the race neared its conclusion, a big crash in the peloton held up much of the field but Cavendish, the 2011 World Champion, was safely ahead of the carnage, on the wheel of Kristoff. Despite finishing second, Cavendish retained the leader's gold jersey. Kristoff is now second at five seconds, with Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida) third at 14 seconds. Stage three on Wednesday covers Lusail, 11km ITT. (QNA)
