D-8 Sec-Gen Calls For Facilitation Of Visa Issuance Among Member States

Ankara, March 4, IRNA – The Iranian Secretary-General of the Eight Developing Nations, D-8, Mohammad Mousavi on Monday called for facilitating visa issuance among member states. Mousavi said that in a recent meeting of consular chiefs of the D-8 in Tehran, the member states discussed ways to facilitate visa issuance for economic activists. He said that Iran, Turkey and Nigeria have taken good steps in this regard and issue visas for economic activists at the airports. Despite an agreement between six member states – except for Egypt and Indonesia – economic activists are still unhappy with long delay in issuance of visa. The D-8 consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living. The Organization is headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey./end
