Dahlan Al Hamad to Run for IAAF Vice-Presidency in 2015 Elections

Doha, February 16 (QNA) - Vice President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Asian Athletics Association (AAA) President Dahlan Al Hamad will re-run for his current posts during this year's elections. Addressing a press conference, held at the headquarters of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and attended by HE Secretary-General of QOC Sheikh Soud bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani, Al Hamad thanked HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for the continuous support. Al Hamad added that the State of Qatar has developed significantly over the past 20 years to become a strong partner for the IAAF. For his part, Secretary-General of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Soud bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani expressed his support to Al Hamad's intentions to maintain his positions. He said that the nomination is important so Dahlan can continue his development of the Asian association. HE the QOC Secretary-General also highlighted the number of achievements of Qatari athletics under the presidency of Al Hamad. One of them was Qatar's hosting of the 2019 World Championships in Athletics. Sheikh Saoud added that the Qatar Olympic Committee provides support to all who work on promoting Qatar's name regionally and on a global scale. Al Hamad has been a member of the IAAF since 2003 and Vice President since 2008. He was elected President of the Asian Athletics Association in 2013. (QNA)
