Darell To Make Three-Day Working Visit To Indonesia

By Mohd Shukri Ishak JAKARTA, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- International Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Darell Leiking will make a three-day working visit here from Friday. During the visit, he will meet Enggartiasto Lukita, Indonesia’s Minister of Trade to discuss ways to further increase bilateral trade and investment cooperation between both countries, as well as discuss issues pertaining to ASEAN’s economic integration. MITI in a statement said Darell would also be meeting with several other Ministers, among them, Airlangga Hartarto (Minister of Industry), Eko Putro Sandjojo (Minister of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions & Transmigration cum Minister-in-charge of Malaysia’s Investment and Business Issues in Indonesia). He is also scheduled to have discussions with the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Investment Coordinating Board of the Republic of Indonesia, alongside meeting with potential Indonesian investors and the Malaysian diaspora, including professionals living in the country. According to MITI, Darell is also to witness the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Malaysia Automotive Institute and the Indonesia Automotive Institute. Indonesia is Malaysia’s 7th largest trading partner globally and the third largest within ASEAN. Bilateral trade almost doubled from US$9.02 billion in 2006 to US$16.89 billion last year. This represents 4.1 per cent of Malaysia’s global trade. -- BERNAMA
