Davutoglu: International community must tell Syrian regime atrocity can not continue

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Saturday that the international community had to tell the Syrian regime that atrocity can not continue. Speaking at a joint press conference with his Italian counterpart Giulio Terzi after a working breakfast in Istanbul, Davutoglu said that the Syrian administration must know that this strong message may be conveyed via various methods and that the atrocity had to come to an end. We discussed today the European Union's (EU) future and enlargement policies, Davutoglu said. The solution to the EU's economic crisis lies in renewing its vision of enlargement, Davutoglu noted. We had a chance to talk about the developments in the Middle East with Terzi, Davutoglu stated. What is taking place in Syria is a human tragedy. It is high time for the international community to say 'stop' to the atrocities being committed in Syria, Davutoglu underlined. On the way to the upcoming Istanbul conference of the "Friends of Syria", pressure must be implemented on the Syrian regime so that humanitarian assistance reaches the Syrian people, Davutoglu emphasized. In response to a question, Davutoglu said that the international community's message may be conveyed to the Syrian adminstration via certain methods including the arming of the Syrian National Council. We want the Syrian state to make peace with its own people before the Syrian state goes bankrupt and the state structure fails. Without wasting further time, the Arab League's plan on Syria must be implemented, Davutoglu also said.
