Debris Discovery Might Narrow Down Search Area For MH370 - JACC

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- The two-metre-long flaperon and several other metallic objects, if found to be connected to the vanished Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 aircraft, might narrow down the search area, according to Australia's Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC). "If the wreckage (discovered on Reunion Island, a French colony) was indeed from Malaysia's missing jetliner, oceanographer's models could be used to narrow down the areas being searched," a JACC spokesman told Xinhua News Agency. "Any new information that comes to hand that might help refine the search area will be incorporated into search planning. "All information is analysed to further inform ongoing search efforts." On Aug 2, Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai confirmed that the piece of wreckage was part of Boeing 777, but whether it was from Flight MH370 had yet to be ascertained. Speculation is rife that the flaperon is from Flight MH370 since it is the only Boeing 777 plane whose flight path was presumed to have ended somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean. Liow had also said the verification process of the flaperon would begin in Toulouse, France on Wednesday. On March 8 last year, Flight MH370 disappeared from the radar while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew. -- BERNAMA
