December 31 proclaimed as Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis in Kalgary

Baku, December 31 (AzerTAc). December 31 was proclaimed as the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis in the city of Kalgary of Canada. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Canada reported, citing the Alberta Azerbaijani Cultural Society (ALACS) that mayor of Kalgary Naheed Nenshi adopted a relevant decision on this issue. The decision says on December 31, 1989 the Azerbaijani people called for the removal of the border fences between Soviet Azerbaijan and Iran. Since then December 31 is celebrated by Azerbaijanis across the world as the day of solidarity. Cultural groups and community organizations are encouraged to get together, celebrate their culture and engage in joint initiatives. The Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis is a day of belief and hope for every Azerbaijani. An estimated 275 thousand Canadians of Azerbaijanis ancestry commemorate this historic event. According to the decision “On behalf of City Council and citizens of Calgary I hereby proclaim the day of December 31 as World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day”
