Defendants jailed for terror acts

Manama, June 27 (BNA): Chief of Terror Crimes Prosecution Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi today said that the High Criminal Court had issued its verdict in the case of the so-called Tayar Al-Wafa Al-Islami (Al-Wafa Islamic Movement) terrorist group. The court found the two defendants guilty of participation in the acts carried out by a terrorist group, including bombing and arson, and sentenced the first one to 10 years in jail and the second to three years. The court also ordered the revocation of the citizenship of the two suspects and the confiscation of the seized items. Documents presented to the court indicated that on January 22, the Northern Police Directorate was notified of a blast and an act of arson carried out in Al-Qidam area for terrorist purposes. The investigations found that Tayar Al-Wafa Al-Islami terrorist groun was responsible for the terror act through two of its members. One suspect was arrested and a warrant was issued to arrest the other. The Public Prosecution relied in substantiating the charges on the statements of evidence witnesses, the confessions of the suspect in custody and forensic reports, Al-Hammadi said, confirming that the defendants had been afforded full legal rights throughout the trial.
