Delegation of American Jewish Committee visits Azerbaijan State Committee on Work with Diaspora

Baku, July 21, AZERTAC Delegation of American Jewish Committee (AJC) has visited Azerbaijan State Committee on Work with Diaspora. The committees discussed the role of AJC in developing Azerbaijan-Israel relations. First deputy chairman of Azerbaijan`s State Committee Valeh Hajiyev highlighted the committee`s activity. He said the committee maintains close relations with the Jewish community around the world. He spoke of tolerance in Azerbaijan, saying that representatives of different nationalities including Jews have historically lived in the country in an environment of mutual understanding and respect. Hajiyev provided detailed information about the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He said some countries continue their double standard policy towards Azerbaijan. He also stressed unacceptability of information warfare and smear campaign against Azerbaijan ahead of the first European Games. Head of the AJC delegation, director of the ACCESS Global Alexis Frankel hailed tolerance in Azerbaijan. Frankel said the attitude towards the Jews in Azerbaijan should be hailed amid double standards against the Jews in Europe and America. The sides stressed the role of the AJC in developing Azerbaijan-US relations, as well as the ties between Azerbaijani and Jewish communities. During their three day-visit the AJC delegation has visited Guba Genocide Memorial Complex and held meetings at the US, Israeli embassies to Azerbaijan.
