Dengue fever kills 126 people in Thailand in 10 months

BANGKOK, October 13 (TNA) – Public Health Minister Dr. Pradit Sintavanarong said on Sunday that dengue fever had killed 126 people in Thailand from January 1 to October 8 this year. He said a total of 133,377 dengue fever cases were reported during the period, noting that most of the victims were found in 11 provinces, mostly in the Central region. Dr. Pradit said more than 9,000 dengue fever cases were reported in September alone, sharply lower than before when an average of over 20,000 cases was reported monthly. Although the number of dengue fever victims in Thailand is on the decline as winter is approaching, the minister said, he has ordered health officials to continue their campaign to destroy dengue mosquito breeding sources, especially in 10 major provinces, including Bangkok, where half of the total patients have been recorded.
