Dengue fever victims nearly 12,000 in Thailand

BANGKOK, July 13 (TNA) - Public health officials throughout Thailand have been instructed to be on alert of the widespread of dengue fever, especially during the current rainy season. Dr. Narong Sahametapat, permanent secretary for Public Health said nearly 12,000 fever patients have been found and 13 died since the beginning of 2014. Statistics of the ministry showed that a total of 11,881 patients have been found in the country while 13 victims died from this January 1 to July 8. Those died were aged between 15-24. Dr. Narong said although the number of patients this year was about 80 per cent less than the corresponding period of 2013. The ministry ordered officials stationing at public health offices nationwide to stay on alert of the fever carrier which is striped mosquitoes. Hospitals, schools and houses owners are asked to get rid of mosquito larvae to prevent the outbreak of the disease. (TNA)
