Deputy PM To Open Malaysian Pavilion At Milano Expo 2015

From Jamaluddin Muhammad MILAN (Italy), May 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will be arriving here Thursday for a three-day official working visit. Charge d' Affaires of the Malaysian Embassy in Rome, Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi said the deputy prime minister is scheduled to open the Malaysian Pavilion at the Milano Expo 2015 as well as meet 30 Italian captains of industries, here, on Friday. Malaysia is one of the 148 countries participating in the six-month world expo starting May 1, among others aimed at promoting food security and technology. With its own theme 'Towards a Sustainable Food Ecosystem', Ahmad Fahmi said Malaysia aimed to showcase its evolvement from a mere agricultural-based country and heading to becoming a developed nation by 2020 and promoting sustainable development along the way. He said Malaysia would also promote trade and investment at the expo which is expected to attract about 20 million visitors, including trade visitors. Ahmad Fahmi said Malaysia would also take the opportunity at the expo to explain its sustainable oil palm products to the world. "Of all the 148 country pavilions, the feedback we got is that the Malaysia Pavilion is the most outstanding because of its four seeds design using Malaysian technology 'Glulam', glued laminated timber," he said. The 2,047-square-metre Malaysian Pavilion is managed by Malaysia's Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Matrade and Tourism and Culture Ministry. "The seeds show how we evolved from agricultural-based and heading towards a developed nation," he said. He said the deputy prime minister is expected to attract new and additional investments from Italian captains of industries during the visit. Muhyiddin will also visit the pavilions of Italy besides several European and Asean countries during the visit. Ahmad Fahmi said the Malaysian Pavilion is expected to attract 1.8 million visitors. Minister of International Trade and Industry Mustapa Mohamed and Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Aziz are scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the Malaysian Pavilion. --BERNAMA
