Development at U-Tapao Airport to complete in 2016

RAYONG, Nov 22 (TNA) - An ongoing expansion construction development at U-Tapao International Airport in the eastern Thai province of Rayong is scheduled to complete in 2016. Rayong governor Somsak Suwansucharit inspected the progress of the expansion of the airport on Sunday. Rear Admiral Vorapol Tongpreecha, director of the airport said the expansion is being made following the green light given by the government in an attempt to develop the airport and to promote tourism industry in the country. Currently, the airport can provide annual service to 870,000 passengers and has 49 aircraft parking bays . Under the expansion plan, a two-storey new passenger terminal will be constructed with an additional area of 3,000 square metres and three more parking bays. After the upgrade is completed, the airport will be able to offer annual services to about three million passengers. Several commercial airlines, including low-cost airline, Air Asia plan to operate new routes from this airport. (TNA)
