DFWAC launches domestic violence radio awareness campaign targeting thousands of families

Dubai (WAM): Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, DFWAC, has launched an awareness campaign through a number of local radio stations, targeting thousands of families in the U.A.E., to raise awareness about domestic violence and child abuse, with effect from the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Afra Al Basti, DFWAC's Director-General, said, "The campaign aims to raise public awareness to the ways of resolving family disputes and strengthening the bonds within the family and protect its members, especially women and children, from being exposed to abuse or violence. She explained that the campaign is implemented in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Media Company and a number of other media organisations, and thanked them for their support for DFWAC's efforts, expressing her hope in the development of this cooperation in the future. Al Basti said that the campaign broadcasts a number of different scenarios, including how families deal with some situations that occur daily between family members, and offers the best ways to deal with them. She explained that most cases of domestic violence against women and children have family breakdown or family disputes as a major cause, which makes awareness of how to build stable families and resolve differences among them a prime target for the Foundation for the prevention of the different manifestations of domestic violence. "In addition to this radio campaign, DFWAC regularly organises several awareness campaigns about domestic violence and child abuse covering all the emirates in the U.A.E. and targeting thousands of people within the community, by holding lectures, seminars and distribution of awareness publications," she concluded. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – Read more:
