Diplomats and top officials from Post-Soviet military bloc discuss weapons standardization

YEREVAN, October 14. /TASS/. The heads of the Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states, along with their defense and foreign ministers will be discussing weapons standardization and joint military training at a meeting in Armenia’s capital of Yerevan, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov told journalists on Friday. According to him, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu is taking part in the meeting. "The meeting’s participants are discussing issues that cover weapons standardization and the joint military training system development," Konashenkov said. Besides, the participants are expected to approve a schedule of the joint operational and combat training for the next year. Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov earlier told TASS about the establishment of a joint inter-state cataloguing system of weapons and military hardware. The register would be non-regulatory and its aim is to standardize the CSTO Collective Swift-Response Forces’ weapons that would streamline the arrangement of joint operations. The Collective Security Treaty was signed in 1992, in 2002 a decision to form the CSTO was made. There are six member states at present, including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian and Tajikistan. Read more
