Disaster mitigation department closely monitors weather situation

BANGKOK, Oct 9 (TNA) -- Floods were expanding in Lop Buri province but were receding in Lampang, Chaiyaphum and Kamphaeng Phet provinces, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported. Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the department, said ongoing heavy rain caused floods in Lop Buri, Lampang, Chaiyaphum and Kamphaeng Phet. In Lop Buri, floodwater affected 611 families in Nong Muang and Khok Samrong districts and one person was killed. In Chaiyaphum, floodwater hit the provincial seat. In Kamphaeng Phet, flooding affected 35 families in Phran Kratai district. The situations were being relieved in Lampang, Chaiyaphum and Kamphaeng Phet but floodwater was spreading in Lop Buri. Mr Chayapol said that his department and other concerned organizations were quickly draining floodwater and distributing consumer products to victims. He also quoted the Meteorological Department as predicting that heavy rain would continue in the North, the Northeast, the Central Plain and the East. Mr Chayapol said he ordered the officials at local levels to prepare quick responses to heavy rain and flooding. (TNA)
