Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The previous year, 4,928 disasters and accidents occurred in which 175 people died, 15 thousand 128 heads of livestock and animals were lost. According to a report on natural disasters and accidents by 2014, construction fires occurred 4,222 times, forest fires--281 times, cases of rabies in domestic animals--131 times, floods and river and lake accidents--89 times, 3.5-magnitude earthquakes--63 times, heavy rains and floods--32 times, severe storms--25 times, incidents related to chemical substance usage and slug firearms accidents--13 times, and thunder--12 times. Estimated damage caused by the construction fires amounted to MNT 11.4 billion, by the forest fires-- 10.8 billion, by porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome--1.6 billion, by heavy rains and floods-- 755.4 million, by severe storms--587.5 million. A financial loss of the total damage estimated reached MNT 25.2 billion, and some 842 million was spent for the elimination of the disasters and accidents. A hundred people died due to drowning in rivers and lakes, 59 people--in construction fires, five--due to thunders, four--in artisanal mining and rock falls, three--in forest fires, two--in heavy rains, floods and severe storm. The number of natural disasters and accidents increased by 461 against previous year.
