"DLT Check in":Most taxis in Thailand offer good services

BANGKOK, March 2 (TNA) - A taxi service evaluation through the "DLT Check in" application has found that 70 per cent of taxis in Thailand provide good services, while 19 per cent of them must improve. Thai Deputy Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith told journalists on Monday that taxi passengers who used the "DLT Check in" application, launched by his ministry's Department of Land Transport, evaluated the taxis they boarded and made recommendations. Arkhom said from February 20 to March 1, 7,066 people registered for using the application and over 20 per cent of them were foreigners. Arkhom revealed inputs via the application showed that passengers were satisfied with 70 per cent of taxis, while 19 per cent of them were found offering substandard services. According to the deputy transport minister, authorities will tell the drivers of the dissatisfactory taxis to improve their services. Via the application, the deputy transport minister noted, 262 people complained about taxi services, four of whom reported threats and refusal to use fare meters and the department already fined the drivers, while other complaints concerned drivers' behaviors and taxi conditions and the department summoned the drivers with alleged poor behaviors and would have substandard taxi conditions fixed. Meanwhile, the Department of Land Transport will consider further raising taxi fares if it sees better taxi services, as it is evaluating their services with information collected through its hotline number 1584, its DLT Check in application and its staffs deployed on streets, the study of which is expected to be concluded by mid-2015.
