Doctor: Using computer excessively may cause CVS

BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) - As majority of youths and working people now use smart phones, tablets and computers in their daily life, probably too excessively, Dr. Supan Srithamma, Director General of the Ministry of Public Health's Department of Medical Services, warns that they may become a “prey of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)”. Dr. Supan said on Saturday (Nov 8) that for those who work on computer for long hours continually, they may also suffer from pain on their eyes, vision becomes blurred and have an headache frequently. Dr. Supan cautioned these kinds of systom may be found on as many as 75 per cent of computer users. According to the senior health official, the cause of CVS is attributed to using computers or cell phones for a long time without a brink of eyes and the situation will become worsen if too much light is reflected directly on the screen. The doctor pointed out that, users who suffer from eye diseases, cold, allergy and body weakness have to adjust their eyes when using computers and this would affect eye muscle. The senior doctor advised that computer users, thus, practice on blinking eyes frequently, while working and may have to use artificial tears as a protection from CVS. Besides, computer screen ought to be used, while the elderly who use spectacles for short and long-sighted eyesight should place the screen below the eyesight in order to suit the lens on short-sighted eyes. Another solution is that computer users should rest their eyes every one or two hours by either closing eyes or looking at pictures far away. (TNA)
