DPM urges anti-government demonstrators to return to Lumpini Park

BANGKOK, October 14 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Police General Pracha Promnok, who oversees national security affairs, has urged anti-government demonstrators to return to rally in front of Bangkok's Lumpini Park to prevent any, probably, untoward incident caused by a third party. Police General Pracha told reporters on Monday morning that authorities concerned have already asked leaders of the demonstrators under the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand to move from the Uruphong Intersection near the Government House to the Lumpini Public Park. The deputy prime minister insisted that the Thai government needs to close 14 roads to protect important government offices in the capital. The deputy premier noted that he will allow National Police Chief Police General Adul Saengsingkaew to decide whether the government should extend the enforcement of the Internal Security Act (ISA) in three districts in Bangkok near the Government House, including Promprap Satrupai, Pra Nakhon and Dusit, from October 9-18. Meanwhile, Police Major General Thawat Boonfueng, Deputy Secretary-General of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, acknowledged if the demonstration continued, the imposition of the ISA might be extended and expanded to cover wider areas. Police Major General Thawat said that concerned authorities will base their decision on the updated situation regarding the joint sitting of the Parliament on the deliberation of the amendment of Section 190 of Thailand's 2010 Constitution.
