DPM visits Thai far South

BANGKOK, October 5 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister Police General Pracha Promnog is visiting the Thai far South on Saturday to listen to opinions of academics on how to address violent incidents in the Thai deep South. Accompanied by Deputy Defence Minister General YuthasakSasiprapa, National Police ChiefPolice General AdulSaengsingkaew and National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General Lieutenant General ParadornPattanathabutr, Police General Pracha, who is in charge of national security, conferred with academics at NarathiwatRajanakarin University after arriving in Narathiwat province. Any agreement, if reached at the meeting, is expected to be reviewed and implemented for the sake of safety of people’s lives and property in the troubled southernmost Thai region. The NSC chief told journalists before his departure from Bangkok earlier in the day that reports on BRN's plan to change its liaison Hassan Taib at the upcoming peace talks to someone still has not yet been confirmed. High ranking Thai security officers, led by the NSC chief, have held three rounds of peace talks with representatives of insurgent groups in the Thai far South, led by the BRN, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital, with the fourth round set to be held later this month.
