Dr Mahathir's Instagram Account Hits One Million Followers

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- As of Thursday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has one million followers on his Instagram account in the span of two months since he first registered it. He expressed thanks to all his followers and also uploaded a photograph, together with wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. “Today, my Instagram page has reached one million followers. Thank you. Social media is an important platform for getting the right information as well as bringing us closer together. “Use it wisely. Happy ‘Ramadan Al Mubarak’ from me and my wife,” he said through his Instagram account chedetofficial on Thursday. The photo received 247,000 likes and 5,340 comments from netizens as at 6.50 on Thursday evening. The Pakatan Harapan (Alliance of Hope) chairman who created history when he was sworn in as Malaysia’s prime minister for the second time at age 92, started the Instagram account on March 15. The number of followers in his official account grew rapidly after the announcement of the results of the 14th General Election which witnessed Pakatan Harapan winning the election. To date, Dr Mahathir only follows seven Instagram accounts including the Instagram of a popular local artiste, Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin, @ctdk. -- BERNAMA
