Drafters to distribute pamphlets on key content of Thailand's new Constitution

BANGKOK, December 30 (TNA) - The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) will publicly hand out some 30,000 booklets containing the key content of Thailand's new Charter as of January 12, 2015. CDC Vice Chairman Manit Suksomjit told Thai News Agency (TNA) that CDC's sub-committees are gathering the key and interesting content of Thailand's newly-drafted Constitution to be then presented through the biweekly pamphlets, aimed at introducing the new Charter to the public. Manit affirmed that from January 12, 2015 onwards, the first lot of 30,000 pamphlets will be handed out at Bangchak gas stations, expressway gates and 10 venues of public hearings on the Charter drafting in the country. Manit said the ongoing production of the pamphlets did not consume any state budget, as it was funded by sponsors that did not want any advertisement. According to the CDC vice chair, the CDC's drafting sub-committees will review their draft parts from January 5-11 to see whether they comply with the CDC's drafting framework, before starting to distribute the draft Constitution on January 12, when journalists will be invited to cover the session. The CDC vice chair acknowledged that the content of the draft Charter has not yet been finalized and the CDC has continued receiving opinions from the government, the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), political parties and the general public. The CDC vice chair noted that content of the draft Charter could be changed, including the part concerning a proposal to welcome a non-elected prime minister, saying such the non-elected prime minister should take office only in a critical situation and have a limited term.
