Drug supply chain broken in teamwork of Russia, Brazil, Peru police

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. A major chain of drug supplies to Russia from South America has been broken in teamwork of Russian, Brazilian and Peruvian police, with more than 13 kilograms of heroin seized from drug couriers in the operation, the head of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service said on Tuesday. The operation "Latin American trap" was carried out in February after a drug trafficking group was detected last year, Viktor Ivanov said. In the first episode of the operation, two Russian drug couriers were detained at Guarulhos Airport in Sao Paolo, Brazil, during the New Year holidays. More than 7.5 kilograms of cocaine were seized on the drug couriers as they were about to board a plane to the Philippines, Ivanov said. Another drug dealer, a national of Peru, was detained in St. Petersburg on February 10. More than three kilograms of Colombian cocaine were seized from him. Drug police learned that another drug courier with a batch of heroin was about to arrive in Russia from Peru, Ivanov continued, saying he was detained with almost 2.5 kilograms of cocaine. Criminal proceedings have been launched in Russia, Brazil and Peru, the Russian drug control service said. Read more
