Drunk drivers’ vehicles to be seized to curb New Year accidents

BANGKOK, December 14 (TNA) - The Thai government plans to apply a measure on seizing vehicles of drunk drivers in order to curb roads accidents during upcoming New Year holidays. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan told journalists of the plan on Wednesday, prior to a meeting of a center tasked with resolving security problems. Deputy Premier Prawit, who oversees national security, revealed that the agenda of the meeting include a discussion on security measures and the public safety issue during the upcoming New Year Festival, after the number of road fatalities increased in the previous New Year Festival. This year, the deputy premier said, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Interior Ministry will meet to find preventive measures. "Most road accidents have involved drunk driving and speeding. The vehicle seizure is an initial measure to be put in place to cut the number of road accidents", the deputy prime minister pointed out. (TNA)
