DSI arrested Thai, Chinese suspects for pirate cups

BANGKOK, June 14 (TNA) - Officials of the Department of Special Investigation seized a large number of pirate cups in the Sampeng market of Bangkok. DSI director-general Paisit Wongmuang told a press conference at the DSI headquarters that the cups seized from 10 premises in Sampeng showed many brands including Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Starbucks and Doraemon. According to Pol Col Paisit, officials from the DSI’s Bureau of Intellectual Property Crime and Surveillance and Intelligence Division conducted the raid and arrested nine people for alleged involvement in the illicit business. In the raid, DSI officials seized about 60,000 pirate cups. Their market price was estimated at 10 million baht. The combined price of licensed cups of the same amount would be about 60 million baht. Thai and Chinese suspects were charged with forging trademarks and violating copyrights. (TNA)
