Education minister and teachers visit Ataturk's Mausoleum

ANKARA (A.A) - November 24, 2011 - Turkish National Education Minister Omer Dincer and teachers visited Anitkabir, Ataturk's Mausoleum, on November 24 Teachers' Day. Dincer, teachers representing 81 provinces of Turkey and National Education Ministry bureaucrats placed a wreath on the mausoleum, and observed a minute of silence. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, received the title "Prime Teacher" in 1928 as he adopted a new alphabet for the newly founded Republic of Turkey. He thought and stated that "New generation will be created by teachers." In 1981, the 100th anniversary of Ataturk's birthday, it was decided that Turkey would celebrate November 24 as Teachers' Day.
