Effective wildfire control in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, March 27 (TNA) – Officials of the Sri Lanna National Park effectively prevent wildfire there by checking all people who enter it for forest items. Yosawat Thiansawat, conservation chief of the national park, said park rangers were operating 35 checkpoints at all access roads to the national park. They record the names of all visitors and prevent them from carrying lighters, matches and inflammable substances into the place. According to him, the Sri Lanna National Park covers almost 900,000 rai in Mae Taeng, Phrao and Chiang Dao districts of Chiang Mai. Park officials at the checkpoints are checking the entry and exit times of all visitors. Mr Yosawat said that the measure was effective as there were only 11 hot spots this month compared with 30 ones in March last year. (TNA)
