EGAT:Gas supply disruption from Myanmar has no impacts on Thailand

BANGKOK, December 25 (TNA) - The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) says that there is not any negative impact on electricity generating in Thailand during Myanmar's temporary suspension of natural gas supply to Thailand from its Yetagun field for 14 days, from December 25, 2013 to January 8, 2014, for annual maintenance. EGAT Deputy Governor Somyos Theravongsakul made the confirmation on Wednesday, acknowledging that the disruption of natural gas supply from neighbouring Myanmar, by 1,100 million cubic feet per day, reduces EGAT's power production capacity by about 3,000 megawatts. Somyos assured that Thailand's electricity supply security remains intact, especially in the Thai South, where power plants have their sufficient generating capacities, including the Krabi Power Plant, which is ready to use its full capacity of power generating at 340 megawatts to serve local tourist destinations during the New Year festival. Wiwat Sirikiatsakul, Director of the Krabi Power Plant, insisted that his power plant is ready to generate electricity at its full capacity to serve communities and tourist destinations and 100,000 liters of fuel oil have been reserved for the local power production. Wiwat noted that power supply from the central region will also be transmitted to the Thai South to guarantee there will be enough power for local consumers and international tourists in the region.
