Egyptian Youngest Participant Of International Quran Recital Competition

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Egyptian Taha Ezat Basyony Awad Ibrahim has become the youngest participant in the 59th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation competition. The competition is held at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) for six days from Monday until Saturday. Talking via an interpreter from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), teenager Taha Ezat said he began memorising the Quran at only six-years-old. "I felt very nervous at the beginning but everything returned to normal since this is not the first time competition for me. “I can memorise the whole Qur'an and this is the result of guidance from my teacher Sheikh Muhammad Solah and my father," he told reporters on Monday night. Taha Ezat made his father, the imam of an Islamic school, as his idol and hopes to become a tahfiz (memoriser) and further education at Madrasah Al-Azhar in Cairo, Egypt. -- BERNAMA
