Eid Al-Adha Celebrated In Pakistan With Religious Fervor

Islamabad, Oct 28, IRNA – The first day of ‘Eid Al-Adha’ was celebrated in Pakistan with traditional religious fervor and the Muslims sacrificed animals to recall the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (S). Eid congregations were held in mosques and open fields across Pakistan and its parts of Kashmir. Khateeb called for unity in their sermons to frustrate designs of those who divide Muslims on sectarian hatred. Mosques and open grounds were packed with faithful across the country. President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in Eid messages called for unity against terrorists, extremists and sectarianism. The people exchanged Eid greetings after special prayers and people visited relatives and friends in line with tradition in the country. Mobile phone services remained temporarily closed in main cities over threats. The service was restored after four-hour blockade. Security measurers were taken in view of possible law and order problem but all Eid congregations concluded peacefully. Special meals were served among the prisoners in jails to include then in Eid celebrations. The relatives of prisoners have also been given special permission to serve home cooked meal to the inmates during Eid holidays./end
