Eight drug traffickers killed in clash

CHIANG RAI, May 14 (TNA) – Eight suspected drug traffickers have been killed and 700,000 methamphetamine pills have been seized in a clash in the Thai northern province of Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osottanakorn, accompanied by local military officers, visited the area where army rangers and drug traffickers exchanged fire last night in Mae Sai district, about two kilometers from the Thailand-Myanmar border. Eight men, aged between 20 and 50, were shot dead following the clash. All of them were suspected of being involved in an illicit drug network in the neighboring country. In addition, the authorities found six bags containing a total of 700,000 meth pills, two M16 rifles, and an AK-47 at the site. (TNA)
