Electic tuk-tuks launched in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, Feb 10 (TNA) - The northern province of Chiang Mai has introduced electric tuk-tuks or three wheeled vehicles in an attempt to reduce pollution and help saving costs for cab drivers. A total of seven electric tuk-tuks unveiled by Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) governor Sermsakul Klaikaew and Charnchai Keelapaeng, director of local Land Transport office in Chiang Mai. Many cab drivers have booked the car which costs over 300,000 baht each. The PEA has planned to produce 450 electric tuk-tuks within the next three years. It can run about two hours and cover 120 kilometres on one charge and ten electric stations are planned to be set up in Chiang Mai in the near future. PEA governor said the PEA also planned to push some 18,000 cabs to switch to using electricity to help reducing pollution. (TNA)
