Electric buses to service on temporary basis

BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) - State-run Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) will from June 2 providing electric bus services on three routes in Bangkok on a trial basis while the agency hopes that the government would help in financing on buying electric buses in future, said BMTA acting director Pranee Sugrasorn. Mrs. Pranee said BMTA had recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Loxley Public Co., Ltd., one of Thailand’s biggest trading conglomerates, in providing electric buses to the public on three routes in the capital. The three routes are from Wat That Thong to Pratunam, Chulalongkorn University to Po Thong Market, and from Kae Rai to Victory Monument. She said BMTA hoped that the government would help in buying electric buses in future because the bus agency did not have money while it is also suffering from heavy debts. Kosol Surakamol, an adviser of Loxley Plc. said the electric buses which would be running on trial basis are imported from China’s BYD Auto Co., manufacturer of electric vehicles.(TNA)
