Electricity, running water ensured in Bangkok throughout flood crisis

BANGKOK, October 29 (TNA) - Public utility agencies, including the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) met on Friday to discuss ways to generate electricity and running water for Bangkok throughout the flood crisis. The latest report stated that the Mahasawat Water Treatment Plant can still generate clean water meeting the standard of the World Health Organization. However, the MWA would partially reduce the water supply in order to improve the water conditions. Also, the MWA would increase water pressure during specific times, so those living on the second floor or higher would have access to running water, and it asks those living high up to store some water for usage. The MWA added however that it would ensure running water 24 hours a day throughout the flood crisis. Meanwhile, Bhumibol Dam Manager Narong Thaiprayoon said the Bhumibol dam is strong and is able to hold water, which is now at 99.79 percent of its holding capacity, and added that the water level in the dam now is still lower than in the year 1975. The Bhumibol dam released 40 million cubic meters of water per day as of Friday, a reduction from 60 million per day earlier. (TNA)
