Emirates Airline donates Dh5million for Levant refugees through Show Compassion campaign

Dubai, 28 January 2015 (WAM): Emirates Airline has donated Dh5 million for the UAE's Show Compassion humanitarian campaign (Tarahamu in Arabic) to help refugees and people affected by snowstorms hitting the Levant region. The carrier's donation is in accordance with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, urging Emiratis to participate in the humanitarian campaign. H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, hailed the generous initiative and the wide response from Emiratis, expatriates and institutions. "It is not unusual for the leadership and the people of the UAE to launch such initiatives as the UAE has always been at the forefront of countries extending a helping hand to, and alleviating the pains of the needy around the world on permanent basis and not only during times of crisis," said H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed. H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed added, "It is out of our sense of responsibility and duty. We believe that it is our duty to contribute to this generous drive and to help alleviate the suffering of our brotherly people in the Levant in general, and the Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan and those who were rendered homeless in Gaza Strip and are facing winter storms in a very difficult humanitarian situation." – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395275696279.html
