ERC open phase 1 of Al Gomhoria Hospital's maintenance programme

ABU DHABI, 16th December, 2015 (WAM) – The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has opened Phase 1 of the maintenance programme for Al Gomhoria Hospital in Aden as part of its support for health facilities that are badly affected by the ongoing crisis in Yemen. An ERC press release said the agency has laid down an extensive plan to maintain and qualify 14 health facilities - five major hospitals and nine health centres and clinics. The release added that Phase 1 had been completed in record time at a total cost of Dh 1.7 million and covered five main wards each with a capacity of 26 beds, a six-room operation theatre, a sterilisation unit, six-room laboratory, and ten administrative offices. The ERC emphasised that improvement of healthcare services in Yemen tops its priorities to bring life in Yemen to normal. Phase II will begin soon, the ERC added. Addressing the ceremony, the governor of Aden lauded the significant efforts being made by the ERC to qualify healthcare facilities and improve healthcare services in Aden Governorate and other neighbouring governorates. He expressed thanks and gratitude to the government and people of the UAE for standing with the Yemeni people at this difficult time. He noted that the ERC was qualifying the main health facilities at a time health services were significantly deteriorating because of the destruction as a result of the crisis. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395289272770.html
