EU one of biggest peace projects of humanity, says EU Minister Bagis

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Turkish Minister for European Union (EU) Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said Friday that the EU was one of the biggest projects of humanity. Speaking at a meeting of ASPEN Bosphorus Dialogue in Istanbul, Bagis said that Istanbul alone was a symbol of Turkey's European character and showed the Turkish identity. When you travel in this region, you notice mosques, churches and synagogues side by side. At the same time, a Muslim family lives in one flat, a Jewish family lives in an other and a Christian family also lives in the same building. Such a reality is appropriate for EU's goals, Bagis said. The EU is not merely an economic or a political project. The EU, in fact, is one of the biggest peace projects of humanity. If the EU can facilitate sustainable peace and prevent further wars, this would be a successful project, Bagis added.
