EU recognizes Syrian National Council as representative of people

BRUSSELS (A.A) - The European Union (EU) recognized the Syrian National Council as a legitimate representative of the people. At a summit in Brussels, EU heads of state and government made a decision recognizing the Syrian National Council as a legitimate representative of the people and calling on opposition members to unite in their struggle for peace. EU foreign ministers were asked to prepare new sanctions against the Syrian government in the summit. The decision by the EU also called on Russia and China, which prevented resolutions regarding Syria at the UN Security Council, to cooperate in efforts for end of violence in Syria.
