Eurasian Economic Union has no task to dramatically increase membership - minister

PARIS, April 8. /TASS/. The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has no task to dramatically increase its membership, minister of the Eurasian Economic Commission on integration and macroeconomics Tatiana Valovaya said on Wednesday. "Quality of integration is more important for us, we are not speeding up this process," she added. Kyrgyzstan will join the EAEU in the nearest future, Valovaya said. "This issue has already been settled. We are completing technical procedures now. Tajikistan will then take a definite decision whether to join the EAEU or not," the minister added. Developments in Ukraine show the need for the deeper dialog between the EU and the EAEU, Valovaya said. "The situation around Ukraine demonstrated it is impossible to maintain the economic stability, to say nothing of the political one, without the dialog of two unions, the EU and the EAEU," the minister added. Chances to initiate such a dialog are higher right now when the parties are challenged by mutual problems than a year ago, Valovaya said. Read more
