Eurofighter Typhoon Undergoes Further Capability Enhancements

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia can benefit from recent developments on the Eurofighter Typhoon programme, if the country chooses the multi-role combat aircraft for its air force. UK-based global defence and security company, BAE Systems, hopes to supply the Eurofighter Typhoon, to Malaysia. In remarks at the recent Farnborough International Air Show, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, the four partner nations in the Eurofighter programme, had agreed to take the next step towards exploiting the growth potential of the aircraft. "The potential is huge and the integration of the meteor missile, an AESA radar, enhancements to the defensive aids systems, further development of the air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities, and integration of new weapons would all boost the world-beating capabilities of this aircraft," he added. In a statement Monday, BAE Systems said on the behalf of the four nations in the Eurofighter programme, a Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued by NETMA (NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency) to Eurofighter GmbH for the development of an Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar (E-Scan). Meanwhile, BAE Systems Business Development Director Malaysia, Andy Latham, said: "The announcement of these further enhancements, to what is already one of the world's leading combat aircraft, means that if Malaysia selects the Typhoon, we will be able to ensure all the latest technologies are available to meet the country's required timescales." -- BERNAMA
