Ex-deputy national police chief charged with forest encroachment

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, THAILAND, March 2 (TNA) - Former deputy national police chief Police General Jumpol Munmai has been detained on charge of allegedly encroaching into a national park in Nakhon Ratchasima Province in the Thai Northeast. Police General Jumpol was taken by police on Thursday to seek approval from Nakhon Ratchasima’s court for his further detention. Three of five suspects in the case turned themselves in to the police and one suspect remains at large. The ex-deputy national police chief was accused of building resort houses on a 13-rai plot of land (about 5.2 acres) in the Thap Lan National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima's Wang Nam Khieo District. Investigators said they are confident that evidence is solid enough to bring the ex-deputy national police chief to justice. (TNA)
