Exhibition of modern Azerbaijani art held in Perm

Baku, October 8, AZERTAC. The Perm-based Museum of Modern Art - PERMM hosted an exhibition of modern Azerbaijani art. The exposition titled “Candy mountains and oil coasts” was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth Policy and Mass Communications of Russia's Perm region in partnership with YAY GALLERY, Aidan Gallery and the Artist and Frollov Gallery. “The exhibition features works of 22 artists. Most of them do not live in Azerbaijan, but despite this, they maintain close ties with the homeland. The concept of “Azerbaijani World” is much broader that the country – the Azerbaijani diaspora is one of the largest in the former Soviet Union, especially in Russia, and a cultural elite of Azerbaijan works successfully around the world,” the museum's presentation says. According to the exhibition's curator Naila Allahverdiyeva, 'candy mountains' symbolize a national nature reserve Altiaghac. “On the way to Altiaghac we see mountains of incredible colors. Due to their bright and variegated color, native people call them ''candy''. The Absheron peninsula is a land of oil. Pumpjacks are standing right in the city and the sea breeze carries the smell of crude oil everywhere,” she says.
