"F1 has placed Bahrain on world sports map"

Manama, Apr. 18 (BNA): Housing Minister Bassim bin Yaqoob Al Hamer has emphasised the significance of the F1 race as an international event that has boosted Bahrain's status on the world map. The race also strengthened Bahrain's sports, economic and tourism sectors and highlighted to the world the kingdom's capabilities as a major host of sporting events. He added, as he attended the second day of the race, that the event is unique for its attracts a large number of motorsport fans from all over the world. "Moreover, it casts international media lights on Bahrain which is hosting the race for the 11th consecutive year." The minister affirmed that building Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in 2004 and hosting F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix had contributed to promoting motorsport in Bahrain and the Middle East and attracted many international renowned figures to follow the race at BIC which is considered as one of the best circuits in the world thanks to its state-of-the-art equipment and highly qualified staff. The Housing Minister praised good organisation and massive popular turnout on the second day of the race, pointing out that the even is developing every year with more activities and a growing number of spectators. He also underlined the role of the race in invigorating the national economy, stressing that the F1 project is a vital venture which has drawn the world's attention to Bahrain.
