Face masks sent to haze-hit Thai South

BANGKOK, June 27 (TNA) - The Ministry of Public Health has stocked about 500,000 face masks for people in the Thai South who are affected by haze spreading from neighbouring Indonesia. Thai Deputy Public Health Minister Chonlanan Srikaew has confirmed that up to 500,000 face masks have been stored for haze-affected people in the Thai South, with 300,000 of them having already been dispatched to public health offices in Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla provinces, 100,000 each, to be handed out to affected locals. According to the deputy public health minister, the smog situation in the Thai South remains safe, as dust particles in the southern Thai region has not exceeded the standard level of 120 microgram per cubic metre. The deputy public health minister has acknowledged lessons learnt from a previous haze threat in the Thai North have been applied to better assist people in the smog-hit Thai South. (TNA)
