FAO reports double-digit growth in Iran’s wheat output

Tehran, IRNA – Figures by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) show production of wheat rose significantly in Iran in the agricultural year of 2022. Figures published in FAO’s global food outlook report showed that Iran produced around 13 million metric tons (mt) of wheat in 2022, up 25% from last year. The report said increased output enabled Iran to cut back on its wheat imports bill as shipments dropped 37% to 5 million mt this year. Iran’s wheat storage also surged to 8.5 million mt this agricultural year, said the report, adding that wheat has accounted for nearly 77% of Iran’s total grains storage in 2022. FAO figures showed that Iran’s total grains output increased by 16% in 2022 to reach 19.5 million mt. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
