Father of Iran’s communication sciences Kazem Motamednejad dies

TEHRAN,Dec.7(MNA) – The father of Iran’s communication sciences Kazem Motamednejad passed away on Thursday. He was 79. Motamednejad, a professor of social sciences at Tehran’s Allameh Tabatabaei University, had suffered from Parkinson’s disease for years, Persian media announced on Thursday evening. His funeral will be held this morning in Tehran and he will be buried in the Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery. Born in the Village Mud near the northeastern Iranian town of Birjand in 1934, he got a Ph.D. in law and politics at the University of Tehran in 1960. Then, he won a scholarship to the French Press Institute of the Paris University in 1964 and received a Ph.D. in journalism. His first collaboration with Persian newspapers began with Kayhan in 1959 and continued until 1963. He also pursued a career in teaching at the University of Tehran at the same time. He was one of the founders of the Social Communication Sciences Faculty of the Allameh Tabatabaei University in 1971. He wrote over 70 articles, which he presented at various international conferences and seminars. He also was the author of “Communication in the ‘Third World’: National Development: A Critical International Bibliography”, “Journalism”, “Mass Communication Devices”, “Interview and Reportage” and several other books. A memorial service will be held at Tehran’s Nur Mosque on Monday.
