Festival of China in Moscow to become important political event - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. The festival of China in Moscow dedicated to the 70th anniversary of China’s founding and the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations will be held on September 13-15 and will become an important political event, Deputy Director of the First Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Smorodin said at a news conference on Wednesday. The scale of the festival can be called unprecedented for bilateral relations, he said. "It is an important event, an important political event in particular, not speaking about the cultural, humanitarian and scientific-technical components," the diplomat noted. Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Russia Fan Xianrong also pointed to the scale of the event. "The 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations is a big date for our friendship and cooperation. We have the right and even have to carry more events that draw emotions from the peoples of our countries," Xianrong stressed. Gong Jiajia, cultural counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, said that the beginning of the festival coincides with China’s Mid-Autumn Festival. "It is the most important holiday after the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year - TASS), which symbolizes prosperity and family reunion," Gong Jiajia stated. The event will include concerts, photo exhibitions, tourist presentations and master classes in calligraphy, painting, Wushu and a tea ceremony, as well as a lantern festival, she said. China’s festival in Moscow will be held at several venues. The Russian-Chinese business forum will also be held as part of the event. Read more
