Filipinos nabbed for stealing diamond set from Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair

BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - A five-member thieving gang, all are Filipinos, has been caught at the Don Mueang Airport for stealing a diamond set, worth more than 300,000 baht, from the ongoing Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair 2016. Police Tourist Commander Police Major General Surachet Hakpan told journalists that all the gangsters were nabbed at an air ticketing booth at Don Mueang Airport on September 7 before they fled to Phuket in the Thai South. Police Major General Surachet said the operation followed a report from the owner of the jewelry, notifying that the diamond necklace was stolen from the fair earlier in the day. "Police examined close-circuit televisions (CCTVs) footage at the jewelry booth and at Don Mueang Airport before the arrest", explained the police tourist commander. The commander stated that all the five Filipinos would be further interrogated and prosecuted by local police taking care of the area, where the fair is organised. According to the tourist police commander, a meeting was held between police, entrepreneurs and other parties concerned to discuss stricter security measures at the 58th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair 2016, which is being held at the IMPACT Trade and Exhibition Centre in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok during September 7-11.
